smart aleck
ʔehé greetings,
Today's expression is:
himk’ocáac
hím’-k’ocáac
hím’- mouth + k’ocáac pointed
“smart aleck” (NPD:284).
This expression is composed from two noun forms, lit. ‘pointed mouth.’ I actually found an analog expression in Mandarin. In Ning Yu's 2011 article and diagram, it shows the interplay between metonymy and metaphor.
